The Boys & Girls Club program model is based on positive youth development and is driven by high-impact, targeted programs that generate proven results.

Character and Leadership

These programs help youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills to participate in the democratic process. Program participants also develop leadership skills and gain opportunities for planning, decision-making, contributing to MVBGC and the larger island community.

Social Emotional Learning

Health and Wellness programs equip youth with resiliency and health literacy skills to make informed decisions about their health and support their emotional wellness and social-emotional development. This leads to positive health outcomes in emotional wellness, substance use, sexual health, and violent behaviors.

Triple Play

Triple Play is a comprehensive health and wellness program. It strives to improve the overall health of MVBGC members ages 6-18 by increasing daily physical activity, teaching them about good nutrition, and helping them develop healthy relationships.

Out-Of-School Time Learning

MVBGC provides its members with a safe place to spend time during non-school hours as an alternative to the streets or being home alone. Our members have the chance to play, have fun, laugh, and learn. We provide them with opportunities to build new skills that raise each child’s belief that he or she can succeed and receive recognition for personal accomplishments. We foster ongoing relationships with caring adults & connections to new friends in a positive environment reinforcing a sense of belonging, personal accountability, civility, and civic responsibility. We strive to bring generation-changing programs that support a commitment to learning, positive values, healthy habits & high expectations for success as an adult.

STEM to STEAM Education

STEAM adds the arts into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and focuses on using technology to teach art practices, elements, and design principles. Innovation is the difference between simply using technology and taking it beyond the instruction manual to bring ideas to life. MVBGC STEAM program teaches members to take their ideas to the next level, take thoughtful risks, engage in hands-on learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.

Arts

MVBGC is committed to providing programs, experiences, and initiatives that allow all youth to access imagination and creativity to express themselves and build connections with others in their community.

Summer Camp

MVBGC runs an affordable summer camp to ensure island youth are engaged during non-school months to help combat summer learning loss, provide recreational experiences and ensure access to a diverse range of programs to fuel their curiosity and exploration. With the goal of promoting the positive development of island youth, MVBGC summer camp provides island children with a safe and secure place to make new friends while participating in meaningful activities to further their life and social skills.
